Review: Wild Side Sex: The Book of Kink by Midori

Wild Side Sex: The Book of Kink is written by Midori, who has written other books such as The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage. While I have not had the awesome privilege of hearing her speak, I was still excited to get to read this book. Which is a collection of essays, articles and advice columns that she has written over the years.

Midori has a great way of writing that to me reads like I am listening to someone speak. It is warm and humorous, with out straying from the topic at hand. In the book she covers an array of topics that both those who are just dipping their toes into the kinky sides of thing to those who have been swimming in the deep end for years can both enjoy (and maybe even learn a thing or two!)

49 articles and as you can see from just the titles, it doesn’t seem like too much is left uncovered. While her articles are from a Femme Domme point of view, it was still easy for me to read and understand what her advice was. The writing was fluid enough that any gender, orientation or how you classify yourself in your relationship you can really get into the writing. What she is saying is universal really, and while they are serious topics she finds a way to talk about them while keeping it fun and really makes you want to just go on to the next topic.

While I have read a good handful of books on kink and BDSM, this is not like Screw the Roses or SM101 which when compared to how Wild Side Sex is put together read more like educational instructions. Wild Side Sex is the thoughts and such that pop into your mind before, during and afterplay. While safety and how-to are a big part of BSDM and Kink, she doesn’t smack you over the head with it. Because what might safe for one, is not safe for another, Midori leaves a lot of that up to the reader. Though she does offer her opinions on things, she never just out right says ‘this is the one true way’.

Out of all the essays, my favorite one (well ones) where those on Trust, Vulnerability, and SM/Ds. Where Midori covered different scenarios in SM/Ds relationships. From couples, to women who find a Dom online, to Doms who are looking to find a long-lasting relationship with a Submissive. I like how she was able to cover many scenarios because the trust for each one of them is different. It made me look at my past relationships (both kinky and vanilla) and see where I may have needed to be more trusting or allow myself more vulnerability in opening myself up to my partner.

Overall, I found Wild Side Sex: The Book of Kink to be a great read. If you are looking for a book that is going to get more into the psychological aspects of kink, but is still a great time to read I highly recommend it. Midori has a wonderfully unique perspective on kink and the community that I think everyone can enjoy.

Thank you Good Vibrations for giving me a chance to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
